Streak throated woodpecker
Sighted on: 29.Aug.2024
During the vehicle safari this evening, we encountered this magnificent Streak throated woodpecker. Woodpeckers are a diverse group with over 200 species globally, varying in size, color, and behavior. Their strong, chisel-like beaks allow them to drill into trees for insects and sap. Remarkably, their skulls are specially adapted with spongy tissue that absorbs shock, protecting their brains from the impact of repeated pecking.
