December 2024 - Week 1 Roundup

River Tern

Sighted on: 03.Dec.2024

We saw a large number of River Terns during the boat safari this morning. River Terns are not considered migratory, as they do not migrate long distances. However, they do exhibit local movements within their range, and Kabini experiences a significant rise in their numbers during the winter months, as they like to lay eggs on the exposed islands that emerge as the water level recedes.

Tusker

Sighted on: 04.Dec.2024

A large tusker with beautiful, long tusks was spotted on the banks of the Kabini during the boat safari today. These gentle giants tend to congregate along the banks of the Kabini at this time of year, and if the early signs are any indication, we can expect a good elephant congregation this season.
